Time for a Shiny New Update

Me: *lifts rock under which I’d stored my blog*

Me: *brushes off dirt, relocates roly poly into the grass*

Me: *cracks knuckles*

Remember when I used to write things? That was neat.

Actually, I have been writing, and I’ll get to that in a bit. First, I thought I’d share what I’ve been up to the last few months before I share what the future holds.

Live Events

If you follow my Facebook page, you probably saw periodic posts featuring my table display at events, like this one:

The Ace Ventura cosplay is my kid.

This one started well but ended more dramatically:

These events were two of many. Another was one I did by myself (without Heather) hosted by an art school that took place in a trendy alley. In May, we set up at Blossom Festival in Cañon City, CO, where our booth was next to the stage. We got to enjoy lots of live music but had to shout our book pitches over it at times.

All that to say my bookish focus so far this year has been selling in-person and meeting new readers. We have more events scheduled, but I’m also spending my creative energy in two other notable ways.

New Book Writing

Yes, I am working on a new book, albeit slowly. It’s a standalone sequel to Dreams of Justice, where Sonia is now a CSI helping two women who have been experiencing their own nightmares about the same crime that happened in the 70s.

There are story-related reasons it’s slow going that I may go into later. My goal is to have the first draft finished by Christmas.

For now, here’s the start of the prologue to whet your palate.

A New Creative Hobby

I started crocheting a handful of years ago, creating afghans, sweaters, and the like. In July, I decided to try a different form of crochet called amigurumi. It’s basically making toys out of yarn.

This came from a wondering about creating merch to go with my books (hence the dragons for Drake), and in my desire to hone my skill, the hobby has grown quickly.

What can I say? Making something in a few hours that is universally loved is great fun. I’ll probably still make merch for my books, but enough friends are making special requests that this may become an enjoyable side gig.

I hope you enjoyed this bloggy update. If you’re at comic cons or craft fairs in Colorado in the next few months, maybe I’ll see you! I’ll post about future events on Facebook so be sure to follow there if you’re not already.

Now, on to work!

  1. HI Allison! Your amigurumi critters are so cute. My mom has always crocheted, but I never had the patience to learn! Unrelated: Is the S for Story book ever going to be available to purchase again? Thank you!

  2. Hello, Allison,
Congratulations and I am glad to read about your progress and a new hobby. I hope you remember me. I am your CC critique partner many years ago. In fact, you sent me one of your books to me to India.

Wishing you every success in your endeavors,
    Regards,
    Vijay Kerji
