Fellow authors, I need to tell you a secret – you can create a book trailer for free.
Last night, my son (he’s 11, by the way) showed me a “trailer” he made with his school iPad. It was pretty cool, so I asked him to show me how me made it. He directed me to iMovie on my phone.
So I started playing around.
I wonder if I can make a book trailer with this, I thought.
I hopped onto Pixabay and gathered a bunch of free-use photos that would be good for such a thing. The final result looked pretty neat, so I put it on my personal Facebook page. The reception was way better than I expected. So today, I hopped onto Google images for some better-quality pics labeled for reuse (thanks to Cathleen Townsend for teaching me how to find those).
Basically, I wanted to see if I could create a cool trailer for free. Check out the final result!
It’s not professionally produced by any means and uses a template, but considering I spent nothing on it, I don’t think it’s too shabby.

Pretty cool, Allison!
I’ve been working on marketing pieces for my upcoming book release and love the idea of adding a trailer. I didn’t realize it could be that easy, so I put it on the back burner.
The iMovie app is on my Mac. I’ve never played with it and didn’t realize it could be used that way, but I definitely need to check it out! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Excellent! I love playing around with this program. Made a trailer I’ll never release, but I’m considering making another one. I love the suspense!

Nice! Looks like a movie trailer. I made my own book trailer for The Wedding Crasher that’s on sale. You can see it pinned on my Twitter page at @KimCoxAuthor but I used the free Microsoft program Movie Maker. There are a few things I wanted to do that I couldn’t or haven’t figured out how to do yet.

This is SO cool.
If you have looked into making a book trailer, you’ll know you can get (a crappy) one from Fiverr for under a hundred bucks, or a nice one for $500, but this looks good and is FREE.

It’s great. I can’t believe it’s so simple to create something that looks so professional. I’ve been looking into using ‘fiver’ for a movie trailer but it’ll cost about £55 for the one I like. I must check out this iMovie. Thanks for sharing!

I did the same thing. My Fiverr trailer didn’t look anywhere as good as this, either.

OUTstandING! Are you kidding? It’s as awesome as you’re going to get it. How long did it take to hunt down the pictures? ❤ ❤ 😀

Thanks! It took a couple of hours to complete. Hunting for pics took the biggest chunk of that time.

Indeed. The pictures are time consuming. Sigh. Worth it though. This is fabulous.

You are wrong, you know. This trailer looks very professional, and is brilliantly put together. Wish I could do as well…

I have had a look, but they all look very complicated. What was the name of the one you used?

Fantastic. Looks totally professional to me. Great from an artistic and from a marketing standpoint. Perfect timing with the music, too. Wow!

Thanks! The music is part of the template. I’m glad my kids are here to teach me things.
