Welcome to my response to the flash fiction prompt over at Carrot Ranch: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story to nourish. The characters can nourish or be nourished.
Since today is Mother’s Day, I put a bit of a maternal spin on it. Enjoy!
A Little Something
I open the pantry, scouring it for nourishment. Scooting cereal and pasta out of the way, I see it–a box of Girl Scout cookies, unopened! My mouth waters as I tear off the tab and pull out a sleeve, anticipating the flood of minty goodness about to find me.
“Dinner’s in an hour.”
Wincing, I turn.
Mom holds her hand out.
Scowling, I hand it over. Instead of returning the box to the pantry, she opens the sleeve and hands me a cookie. “One won’t ruin your appetite.” Winking, she takes one for herself.
She’s pretty cool, I guess.
Girl scout cookies and understanding mother’s. Now that’s a wholesome day.

Sweet story. Although I’d rather have a banana!

I have to support the Girl Scouts through ThinMint purchases. So says my husband. I have to hide the ThinMints from my husband. Or do I? When they’re gone they’re gone. Who says a couple sleeves of ThinMints isn’t a nourishing dinner? Not my husband.

Mmmm, cookies… 🤤🍪
I loved reading this, she does have a pretty cool mum, my mum would just be like “Dinners in an hour – if you’re hungry then eat a banana.” 😂😂😂
But she’s great too. ❤️❤️❤️
